Peter Schottenhamel is the fourth generation of the family to run the beer tent at the Oktoberfest which bears the family name. This year the first keg of festival beer will be opened on the 17th of September. The opening ceremony takes place it the Schottenhamel tent. It's an event the seventy-year-old looks forward to every year.

When the beer festival starts Peter Schottenhamel has already been working for a year. He has already done every job there is to do in the tent. Three people work here year round. 350 temporary workers are hired for the length of the festival.

Peter Schottenhamel studied brewing, before learning the banking business. During his 20 year bank career he advanced to bank manager. Those are ideal qualifications for someone running a beer tent at Munich's Oktoberfest. He has focused on that career for 25 years now. He's seen as a modern beer tent manager: he wears fine clothes, does sport and has a cosmopolitan outlook. But he still places great value on tradition. His sons run gastronomy businesses in Munich and are ready to take over running the Schottenhamel tent in the future.
