Our guest on 25.09.2011 Eva Briegel, Lead singer with the pop band Juli

Eva Briegel, lead singer with the band Juli, has been one of the mainstays of German pop music for nearly a decade. The band, which hails from Giessen in the state of Hessen, had its first hit in 2004 with their debut single, “Perfekte Welle”. Their recipe for success—catchy pop, with lyrics sung in German. Eva Briegel was 25 years old when the band hit it big. She decided to drop out of university and focus on her music career. More than a lead singer, she also co-writes the lyrics and melodies.
Since their breakthrough, Eva Briegel’s life has revolved around concert tours and the media spotlight. Although she's passionate about books and loves horseback riding, nowadays she has little time to spare. Juli’s second album climbed to the top of the German charts in 2006, proving that the band was more than a one-summer flash in the pan. But after a marathon concert tour, Eva Briegel and her band-mates realized they were burnt out. In 2008, they decided to take a year off from music and from each other. Eva Briegel left Giessen and moved to Berlin to be with her boyfriend, who is also a musician. Her daughter Yoko was born in spring 2010, while Eva Briegel was working on the band’s current album release. The band Juli remains a true collaboration, with Eva Briegel as the dynamic front-woman—a talented musician who is also a committed vegetarian and animal-rights activist. With her four-man crew, Eva Briegel has released three albums to date—the latest is called "In Love."
