Israel has rejected a White House proposal announced on Friday for a so-called "Board of Peace" to temporarily govern Gaza. The second phase of the ceasefire has faced hurdles since the truce took hold last October.

The Gaza ceasefire took effect in October 2025, but Palestinians have reported around 400 deaths since then.

During the first phase, all living hostages held by Hamas were returned to Israel, while hundreds of Palestinians were released from Israeli prisons.

Analysts say progress toward the reconstruction-focused second phase has been slow, with major issues — including Hamas' disarmament and a timeline for further Israeli troop withdrawals — still unresolved.
