Sarah Almagro Vallejo is one of the most inspiring personalities in international para surfing. After suffering severe sepsis, which almost cost her her life at the age of 18 and led to a quadruple amputation, she has managed to fight her way back from the brink to achieve the extraordinary. Today, she is a multiple para surfing world champion, law student and sought-after speaker.
For Sarah, the sea means freedom. On her surfboard, she’s like everyone else – despite her disability.
Her goal is to take part in the Paralympics and raise awareness of para surfing worldwide. In May 2025, she won the Adaptive Surfing Championshipsin Hawaii.
In addition to sport, she's a popular speaker. In collaboration with the city of Fuengirola, she talks to schoolchildren about resilience, motivation and the joy of living. Her message: “I am not my illness - I am an athlete, a student and a speaker.”
Sarah uses every opportunity she can to inspire young people and raise awareness of the importance of inclusion in sport. Her story shows that with courage, family and drive, anything is possible. For her, para surfing is more than a sport - it is a symbol of strength, equality and second chances.
