Over the past few months, German policymakers, it seems, have been increasingly alarmed by disturbing developments within the young generation: an increase in juvenile crime, violence in schools and now a new worry: rising alcohol consumption by the very young: more precisely binge-drinking and unruly behaviour by kids in their early teens in public. In Berlin alone, hundreds were picked up by the police last year - and many rushed to hospital. Well, conservative politicians want this to stop, advocating a comprehensive public drinking ban. Critics say the police can't solve problems that have underlying social roots - such as lack of parental care -,and anyway youngsters wouldn't be impressed:
