Body likes and dislikes: The Life Links team bare all
Life Links teamFebruary 26, 2015Body likes and dislikes: The Life Links team bare all
Whether it is knobbly knees, wide ankles or a flabby tummy, most people can single out a part of their body that they dislike. We reveal our physical insecurities - and the things we love, too. Now it’s your turn!
Reporter Yalda: Nose vs eyes
As a teenager I wouldn’t let anyone take a photo of me in profile because of my nose - it’s obviously not the smallest, and it’s quite pointed. Most of my fellow Iranians have traded theirs in for Hollywood-style noses. I think I’ll keep mine though - it’s part of my heritage, and I want to save the Persian nose from extinction. As for what I like? My eyes - for helping me see things this way.
Reporter Jan: Shoulders vs calves
I like my calves. They keep me going. And I like to think they’re pretty muscular. Thanks to them, I was always first in short distance sprints at school, which made up for the fact that I pretty much sucked at any other sport. But I dislike my poor posture - which I blame on my shoulders. I tend to slouch and that often makes my arms dangle in front of me like I’m some kind of zombie.
Reporter Gönna: ? vs eyes
Fortunately, the part of my body I find ugliest is always covered by clothes, and I'll leave you guessing as to what it might be. I can tell you about the most abnormal part of my body though: my pinky. I don't think there is even a name for that strangely shaped white part at the top of the nail and I've had it since I can remember. Speaking of shape...I do like the curve of my eyes.
Online Editor Caro: Nose vs legs
My nose is literally the size of an elephant’s. Not joking. It’s massive. I always get a little paranoid when someone looks at me from the side and think: please don’t look at my nose! My legs are subject to less criticism, mostly because they allow me to run away from the occasional real elephant and help me see the most stunning, mind-expanding and weirdest of places the world has to offer.
Online Editor Sophie: Upper arms vs hair
Though its texture is changing now that I’m a little older, I still like my hair - for its color and for keeping me guessing every day about how it might turn out. Less attractive, but much more predictable are my upper arms; my “chicken wings”. I know by now that if I give someone a wave, they’ll continue to wobble excitedly long after the rest of my arm has stopped moving.
Online Editor Lou: Chin vs eyes
Head up, chin slightly down - that’s what I tell myself as I try to get a photo without a double chin. But there it is again! As I get older, I can’t imagine it getting better. It’s something I’m going to have to learn to live with. Luckily, my eyes are unlikely to change with age. Reading, watching the world go by - all things my eyes help with. And the blue-grey color is not so bad either.
Senior Online Editor Gianna: Knees vs. freckles
My knees look exactly like my dad’s ones (although luckily they’re less hairy). My parents labeled them “sportsmen’s knees”. As I used to be a swimmer, it didn’t bother me too much. But if I could change one part of me, they would be it. What I definitely want to keep are my freckles! Some people dislike theirs but I’m really proud of mine and look forward to getting more in the sun.
Senior Producer Mathias: Hairline vs bum
I’ve never had the hairline I’d love to have. And ageing doesn’t help when it comes to going bald. There may come a time when I’ll go bald voluntarily - I’m not one of those guys trying to hide what’s not to hide anymore. But some things withstand the years. Even though I spend a lot of time sitting down in my role as a producer, the muscles in my bottom are still doing a great job.
Head of Life Links Fabian: Hand vs “beauty spots”
I am very happy with my hands. They work pretty well and they look like, well hands. They can be precise, fast, tender - extremely useful! What I don’t like that much are my moles, except when I use a different term for them: beauty spots. I think they are in the best case pointless and in the worst case scary. I’ve had to have a few of them removed.
Pretty much everyone can identify a part of their body that they are not one hundred percent happy with. Usually, it's something that irks them but goes completely unnoticed by others. We put that theory to the test and asked each other to reveal which body part we love and hate. Some of the answers were quite a surprise.
