Aubameyang suspended by Borussia Dortmund

November 16, 2017

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been suspended by Borussia Dortmund for their Bundesliga match against Stuttgart on Friday for "disciplinary reasons." The striker was also suspended by the club last November.

Dortmund confirmed the news on Thursday evening with a tweet shortly after posting a video of the rest of the squad departing for the game in Stuttgart on Friday.

According to German newspaper Bild, the Gabonese striker had been given two days off by the club during the international break and visited former Dortmund teammate Ousmane Dembele in Barcelona.

Aubameyang was also disciplined by the club last November when he was omitted from a Champions League squad against Sporting Lisbon for what then-coach Thomas Tuchel described as an "internal issue."

He returned for the club's next match, scoring four times as Dortmund beat Hamburg 5-2. But the club are not in such fine form at the moment. Dortmund have won just one of their last seven games - against lower division Magdeburg in the German Cup - while the usually-prolific Aubameyang hasn't scored in his last five.

In pre-season, it seemed likely that the 28-year-old striker would leave the Bundesliga side but no transfer ever came to fruition.

At the moment, it is unclear whether Aubameyang's suspension will last longer than the Stuttgart game. They play Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League on November 21, followed by the Revierderby with Schalke on November 25.
