On a street corner in Wroclaw, Poland, a public fridge offers free food to anyone who needs it. Run by Jan Piontek's Take and Help foundation, the community fridges invite people to take what they need and give what they can, reducing food waste and easing hardship. Couples, schoolchildren and supermarkets donate bread, soup or produce. Nearly 20 fridges operate in Wrocław and about 1,600 nationwide, with cautious financial backing from the city.
