Poland's civilian defense program set to begin

Poland is stepping up efforts to prepare its population for a potential Russian threat. The government’s goal is to train civilians in weekend military exercises.

Amid growing security concerns linked to Russia's war in Ukraine, including recent Russian drone incursions and suspected sabotage on Polish railways, the Polish government is offering first aid and survival training programmes for civilians.

Reactions in Warsaw are broadly supportive: many view the training as necessary given the security climate, though some say it is unsettling and reflects the danger of the times.
