Police Train for Hooligans

September 15, 2005

In preparation for next year's World Cup, German and Dutch police are conducting anti-Hooligan joint exercises this week. Around 600 officers from both countries will take part in the exercises at an airport near the town of Weeze in Western Germany. The exercises will simulate the arrival and departure of fans, played by around 800 extras, as well as the clashes and fights police may face at the soccer tournament in June 2006. "We want to simulate the regular deployments," said a police spokesman. The training is supposed to harmonize the various tactics of North Rhine-Westphalian, federal German and Dutch police.
