Power struggle in Venezuela: Who's winning?

Showdown in Venezuela: opposition leader Juan Guaido is calling on President Nicolas Maduro to step aside. Many countries, among them the United States, have recognized Guaido as interim president. But the country's military, as well as Russia and China, are still backing Maduro. Could Venezuela descend into bloody civil war?

Ana Soliz de Stange is research fellow at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg".  And she says: "The democratic transition in Venezuela has to continue. Venezuela must hold new presidential elections."

Thomas O’Donnell is an American who works as an analyst and consultant, and as a teacher at the Free University of Berlin. He says: “The Hugo Chavez model of development that he called "oil socialism" destroyed the social fabric of Venezuela.”

Ivo Hernandez is from Venezuela and works as a political science professor at the University of Münster. He says: "The return to democracy in Venzuela may mean the fall of a second communist Berlin wall."
