The price of gold is reshaping Indian weddings — here's how

Gold prices in India have surged to historic highs, pushing wedding budgets to the breaking point. Couples are scaling back and recycling old gold as the cost of tradition becomes out of reach for many families.

In India, weddings are meant to be grand. Tradition demands it. And at the heart of those traditions is gold, and lots of it. A wedding without gold is unthinkable for many families. But with gold prices at record highs, that tradition has become a heavy burden.

Across the country, families are struggling to plan weddings they can afford. The bridal jewelry that once symbolized pride and security has become painfully expensive. Many save for years, only to realize they still can't cover the cost. Dreams get trimmed, jewelry sets get smaller, and cherished wishes are quietly set aside, all because the gold that should shine is now out of reach.
