Pro-Democracy Protests Broken Up in Myanmar

August 22, 2007

Myanmar's military rulers on Wednesday broke up a pro-democracy demonstration in the country's former capital Yangon. At least 13 leading dissidents were arrested. On Sunday a crowd of 500 people demonstrated against a massive hike in fuel prices, which has doubled transport costs and has left many people struggling to find enough money to get to work everyday.
