Alongside PSA testing, in Germany, new screening combines lab tests with imaging to spot serious disease earlier — and guide more targeted treatment decisions.

Digital rectal exams can miss tumors, as only part of the prostate can be reached. That is why PSA testing has become a key tool in early detection. It measures a protein produced by the prostate, but elevated levels do not always mean cancer. In many cases today, a raised PSA is followed by a specialized MRI scan before a biopsy is considered. Imaging can help identify clinically significant tumors and guide targeted tissue sampling if needed. This approach helps reduce unnecessary procedures while improving the chances of early, effective treatment.
