Protecting Peru's tropical forests

Forests, rivers and lakes are open to everyone to use and enjoy. But are we using these shared resources to the point of destruction? Next week on Global Ideas, we take a closer look at how attitudes towards shared national resources are changing. We visit Peru’s rainforests, where indigenous communities that have long resisted taking part in forest preservation efforts are now starting to work with experts to support sustainable forestry. That’s especially important with illegal logging there on the rise. The local population receives compensation for actively working to protect the forest, and they use that money to invest in infrastructure, the local economy or in social projects.
