Clashes between protesters and security forces in Iran have turned deadly. Rising living costs have sparked outrage among citizens. The protests have also turned against the country's authoritarian government.

Protests in Iran have entered a sixth day, growing increasingly violent as anger over soaring inflation and a plunging currency spreads.

Sparked by shopkeepers in Tehran, the movement has broadened into dissent against the government. The central bank governor has resigned, and leaders pledge to heed "legitimate demands." The unrest, though large, remains less widespread and deadly than the 2022 protests sparked by the death of Jina Mahsa Amini.
