At the center of the dispute is a project linked to Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Trump. Outrage over construction in a protected area has now grown into protest against Albania's political establishment.

Protests in Albania's capital Tirana have escalated into one of the country's largest movements since the fall of communism in 1991.

Sparked by opposition to a planned Trump-linked luxury resort, demonstrators now denounce corruption, rising inequality and the privatization of public spaces.

Protesters are calling for Prime Minister Edi Rama's resignation and a complete overhaul of the political system, blaming both government and opposition for failing ordinary citizens.
