Protests in Pakistan over relief aid

The situation after the cyclone in Pakistan is serious amidst allegations that the government is failing in its relief efforts

The death toll from the torrential rains that have lashed Pakistan's North-West Frontier Province and the tribal region bordering Afghanistan has climbed to 100, according to reports from the region. The authorities had issued warnings to people and asked them to evacuate the area as nearly all the rivers are overflowing. The mood amongst the victims of the horrific weather conditions in Pakistan in the last few weeks is however clearly ugly with many people blaming the Pakistani authorities for failing to help them. Indeed on Friday the police opened fire to disperse hundreds of hungry victims of tropical cyclone Yemyin that caused heavy rains and floods in Pakistan's southern coastal areas for the last four days.
