Tourists can now scan the QR codes (QR stands for "quick response") onto their smartphones and immediately access special Wikipedia entries on the location in question. This small town in the southeast of Wales hopes its collaboration with Wikipedia will help it attract more visitors. Monmouth is on track to install 1,000 of these code plaques on its walls and streets. The scheme even allows foreign visitors to read the articles in their mother tongue. The local authorities is also offering free-of-charge WLAN so as to prevent visitors having to pay excessive roaming fees.
