Quadriga - The New Silk Road: China’s Route to Europe?

China is investing 900 billion dollars in the New Silk Road – possibly the biggest infrastructure project in history. Is the goal to foster trade and development? Bernhard Bartsch is s senior expert on China for the Bertelsmann-Foundation. He says: "Time to balance China’s influence in a reasonable way may be running out."



Andreas Kluth
is editor in chief at Handelsblatt Global. He says: "Europe should stop being naïve: China has a plan for economic domination of the Eurasian landmass and seas. And that is not in Europe’s interest."



Ruth Kirchner
is a former China correspondent for the ARD network and works today as a freelance journalist. She says: "China’s Belt and Road Initiative is a good idea in principle, but it lacks transparency and ties participating countries to an authoritarian system."
