Tens of thousands of opposition activists hit the streets and clashed in bloody street battles with the supporters of President Mursi. His new decree prevents the courts from overturning any of his decisions and gives Mursi the power to sack and elect a new prosecutor general. This effectively allows him to rule the country unchecked. Mursi has also removed from the courts and placed in his own hands the power to dissolve the assembly drafting the country's new constitution.

Samir Nasir- is a freelance film-director, editor and lecturer. Born in Germany, he spent his youth in Cairo. He studied business and then film at the Baden-Württemberg Filmakademie. Currently he is working on the film version of the book "Sharaf" by Egyptian author Sonallah Ibrahim. The book is a portrayal of Egyptian society at the end of the Mubarak era. In Germany he has closely followed the spread of right-wing extremist groups. He has received a number of prizes for his documentaries.
Jan Kuhlmann – After studying History and Islamic Studies in Hamburg Jan Kuhlmann started his journalistic career at the Kieler Nachrichten. His work took him to the Middle East where he worked for the dpa news agency in Tel Aviv and he studied Arabic at the American University of Cairo. Back in Germany he became the Berlin Correspondent of the Rheinischen Merkurnewspaper. He is a freelance journalist specialising in events in the Arab world.
Thomas Hasel – is a German journalist and political scientist. He studied at the Universities of Munich, Paris and Berlin. His 2002 doctorate examined the conflict in Algeria between Islamists and the state. Since 1994 he has specialized in political and economic systems in the Arab world. He currently holds a post at Berlin's Free University examining the authoritarian regimes of North Africa and the difficulties in democratizing them. He has also written a number of press articles on the region and has produced documentaries on post Mubarak Egypt.
