Germany has more than 20,000 railway bridges, with nearly 1,500 in urgent need of overhaul. Many railway tracks are also in terrible shape. Deutsche Bahn boss Rüdiger Grube says the national rail operator’s 2.75 billion euro budget for repairs is insufficient. But the federal government is skeptical. Now the transportation ministry is conducting its own assessment.
