In Kenya, the number of women killed each year has been rising, but femicide is not even a legal term. The NGO Usikimye is working to change that and to raise awareness about gender-based violence.

Kenya is grappling with a surge in femicides, with about 40 women killed each month. The murder of 10-year-old Mary Wambui sparked outrage and nationwide protests, prompting the government to form a task force. Activists like Njeri Migwi call for better psychosocial support for survivors. NGOs are raising awareness through exhibitions and counseling, as families like Mary's seek justice after years of pain.
