In the Interview: Monika Hauser, Founder of medica mondiale

At ‘media mondiale’, a Cologne-based women’s rights and aid organization, Monika Hauser supports women who were traumatized in war and conflict zones. This issue is particularly pressing with ‘IS’ abducting, enslaving and (gang)-raping Yazidi women in Syria and Iraq.

In an interview with DW host Alexandra von Nahmen, Hauser talks about the horrors of witnessing these “dehumanizing war crimes”, how she manages to keep a personal distance to the victims of abuse and the lack of political initiatives.

Is there a way of bringing women’s rights back on the political agenda? What steps need to be taken to ensure women receive the medical, psychological and legal support they need? Find out on this week’s DW Interview.
