Report: 4.26 Million Germans Unemployed

September 30, 2004
The German jobless total stood at around 4.26 million in September, 85,000 fewer than in August, but still 55,000 more than in September 2003, the mass-circulation daily Bild reported Thursday without revealing its sources. Including around 80,000 people on training schemes, that was the highest September jobless total since German unification, the newspaper said. The Federal Labor Agency is scheduled to publish official September jobless data next week. In August, the number of people looking for work in the eurozone's biggest economy declined by around 13,400 to 4.35 million -- or 10.5 percent of the workforce -- in raw or unadjusted terms. (AFP)
