An international team is measuring aerosols with an airship on Germany’s highest peak. The goals are to understand the role of particulate matter in global warming and combat air pollution.

Researchers have launched an airship mission over Germany’s highest peak to study aerosols—tiny particles that can harm health and fuel climate change. Equipped with advanced instruments, the Zeppelin maps air quality, offering insights planes can’t provide. Despite fog and gusty winds, the team successfully tested the research aircraft’s resilience before future Arctic expeditions aimed at reducing air pollution.
