REV Special: NSU Ro 80

The Ro 80 tried to revolutionize the automobile in 1967, with a new engine type and an innovative streamlined body.

German carmaker NSU opted for a pistonless rotary engine, invented by Felix Wankel. It was celebrated by critics and rejected by customers, as the engine was prone to breakdowns. The Ro 80's styling remained highly influential, but its revolutionary technology was its downfall.
