Researchers at the University of Oxford have developed a four-legged robot to help protect Europe's forests from overexploitation and extreme weather. "Robo-dog" maps woodlands tree by tree to improve sustainability.

A four-legged robot is helping protect forests from threats like commercial logging and extreme weather.

Developed by Oxford Robotics Institute, the robot dog uses laser sensors to map trees and monitor growth, creating 3D models that guide interventions to keep forests healthy.

Researchers hope this high-tech approach will transform forestry management, despite challenges in cost and industry adoption.
