Robots as Ship Inspectors

They crawl, fly or climb. We're talking robots which help inspect all the important parts of a ship from every angle. The information they gather, for instance about corrosion, is passed on to the ship's control room for review.

The robots are part of the European research project, Mioas, where scientists develop ideas about how robots can help humans maintain cargo ships and ensure they are seaworthy. The remote-controlled assistants can help carry out several inspection processes at the same time, saving time and money.
