Russia's parliamentary elections are scheduled for December 2nd. United Russia is expected to gain a large majority in the elections, with outgoing President Vladimir Putin heading the party's list of candidates for the parliamentary vote. The Russian constitution prevents Putin from running for a third term as president - but he could still become prime minister. The country is eagerly awaiting his announcement on who he will be backing to succeed him as president. Whatever happens, Putin is set to remain at the centre of Russia's political life.
