On Egypt's Red Sea coast, an endangered turtle project turns tourists into citizen scientists, changing how humans engage with a fragile marine world.

Along Egypt's Red Sea, the Turtle Watch Egypt initiative is turning divers, snorkelers, and tourists into citizen scientists to help protect endangered marine turtles. By photographing each turtle's unique facial markings, volunteers help researchers identify individuals and monitor their behavior, injuries and habitats. The project also trains divers to collect reliable conservation data while minimizing disturbance to marine wildlife.

Producer's note: The turtle models featured in this report were donated to Turtle Watch Egypt by Inwater Research Group.
