But in recent years, massive tracts of forestland have being razed to the ground for one reason - the demand for firewood is sky high as families on the island depend on it for cooking. Each year, around 200,000 hectares of forest disappear in Madagascar. Now, a Swiss aid organization is hoping solar cookers will gain some steam and halt deforestation.
