Schröder to Attend Confed Cup Final

German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder, an avid soccer fan and former striker, will atttend the Confederations Cup final on 29 June in Frankfurt. According to FIFA's World Cup Web site, Schröder will make the first-ever visit by a German chancellor to German Football Association (DFB) headquarters. "We regard the visit as a great honor, and we're looking forward to this premiere," 2006 FIFA World Cup Organizing Committee vice-president Wolfgang Niersbach said. Schröder will first watch the third-place play-off in Leipzig at the DFB headquarters in Frankfurt on television before walking the short distance to the Frankfurt Waldstadion, where he will watch the Confederations Cup final.
