Researchers at the University of Granada in Spain have created an artificial cornea using fish scales. The technology could offer a more affordable alternative to donor corneas for people with severe eye diseases.

Researchers in Spain have developed corneal implant material made from fish scales, offering a potential solution to global donor shortages. Early lab and animal tests show the tissue supports corneal cell growth and is highly compatible with human implantation. While human trials are still pending, the technology could become a promising alternative for patients with sight‑threatening corneal disease.
