On September 18 some four million Scots will go to the polls in a referendum on Scottish independence with the "yes" and "no" factions being more or less neck and neck. Ahead of Thursday's vote we thought we'd examine what is the essence of Scottish identity - and what is at stake if Scotland goes it alone.
