Years of toxic emissions from metal and car battery recycling plants have contaminated the air, water, and soil—causing serious health issues, especially in children. So locals are pushing for change. From grassroots petitions and scientific biosensors to phytoremediation and reforestation schemes, the community is combining activism with innovation to effect change.
