Eight out of ten Germans use Google as a search engine, so online shops depend on being ranked as high as possible in Google search results. But if a website is suddenly massively linked to other sites, Google programs suspect manipulation.

The search engine then penalizes the website by placing it far down in the rankings or not listing it at all. There are numerous agencies that offer their customers search engine optimization. Some of the methods can be used to hobble the competition.
