Top trends at Men's Fashion Week in Paris
While bus drivers and schoolboys wore skirts last week to protest against "no shorts" policies, shorts were among the top trends on the catwalks during Men's Fashion Week in Paris.

Shorts everywhere
Bare legs were one of the clearest trends at Men's Fashion Week in Paris, which closed on Sunday. This model presents a creation by Louis Vuitton, with leather scuba shorts. The French label was not the only one to include shorts in its show. Business suit jackets were matched with shorts in different collections. Legs - including hairy ones - dominated the catwalks.

Socks with sandals
For many, the combination epitomizes a style crime committed by the clichéd German tourist. Judging by this week's shows, socks and sandals are back in style: Louis Vuitton sent out nearly 20 models wearing them (picture). The labels Ami, Wooyoungmi and Etudes also featured the trend, in it most dorky variation: sandals with white socks. Designer Haider Ackermann even dared socks and flip flops.

Sporty looks
Shorts and tennis socks were only two recurring elements demonstrating that an 1980s sporty look is in. Even designers renowned for their classic lines, such as the French label Hermès, featured jogging suits and hoodies in their new collection. This design by Valentino Menswear is another variation inspired by athletes' style.

Tropical styles
Hawaiian shirts also starred on the catwalks of Men's Fashion Week in Paris. Palm trees, exotic flowers and flashy sunsets found their way on several vintage-inspired designs. This model features a creation by Paul Smith.

Glam and glitter
Bold colors and prints: Japanese fashion label Comme des Garcons added an extra touch of glamour to the trend, presenting glittering red, yellow and purple and golden pink outfits - complete with evening shorts.

Last week, some 30 British schoolboys and a group of French bus drivers in the city of Nantes had something in common: they wore skirts to protest against the "no shorts" policy at their school or workplace.
While above-the-knee trousers may not be admitted in every formal context yet, collections featured at the Paris Men's Fashion Week made clear that more trendsetters will be defiantly wearing shorts to the office next summer.
Most labels featured men's bare legs - such as Louis Vuitton's leather scuba shorts and jersey surf pants, Dries Van Noten formal and boxy shorts or Yohji Yamamoto three-quarter length scuba shorts. Some designers went daringly high: Loewe's micro-shorts were more like Speedo pouches. The Taiwanese Chiang and the Japanese label Facetasm also included kilts, tube shorts and culottes.
The skirt, which used to be worn by men in Europe in earlier times, might also make a comeback on men at the office in a not-so-distant future - this time as more than just a protest piece of clothing, as demonstrated by Thom Browne's collection.
His models were wearing suit jackets with skirts and high heels. "Why can't this be for men?" he told AFP on Sunday. "They almost look more masculine (in skirts) than if they were wearing just normal clothes."
