Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is leading a bloody war against his own people, with reports of more massacres of civilians by Syrian security forces.

Unlike in Libya, the West is holding back when it comes to military intervention. Germany, too, is seeking a diplomatic solution. But calls for the international community to fight Assad with more than words are growing.
