In the early 1970s, after years abroad, Fazle Hasan Abed returned home to Bangladesh, a newly-independent country. He found a nation in ruins, and he determined to help improve people's lives. BRAC is now the world's largest NGO and focuses on helping the landless poor, particularly women.
