Somaliland, located in the Horn of Africa, is raising the geopolitical stakes by offering the United States exclusive mineral rights and access to military bases. The breakaway nation, so far only recognized by Israel, is betting everything on a bold new path to international recognition.

Somaliland is pushing for wider recognition after Israel acknowledged its independence in 2025. Its leaders are offering the US exclusive access to potential lithium, coltan and other mineral reserves — and even US military bases — to leverage the region’s strategic position near the Gulf of Aden. Similar outreach targets Israel and Ethiopia as Somaliland seeks long‑denied sovereignty.
