Over 37 million Tanzanians are eligible to vote in a general election, yet many risk being disenfranchised because of the exclusion of opposition parties. One opposition supporter tells DW why he plans to boycott.

Tanzania's October 29, 2025, general election is being overshadowed by allegations of repression and political exclusion as President Samia Suluhu Hassan andthe ruling CCM (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) face a sidelined opposition. Analysts warn the crackdown risks political instability amid public discontent. Opposition supporter Frederick Mbwambo pledges to boycott, citing jailed leaders and a struggle for democracy. Despite challenges, he remains hopeful for future systemic change. Meanwhile, some CCM supporters express unease over the absence of a strong opposition but remain convinced of their party’s development agenda.
