Southeast Asia battles flood recovery as death toll rises

The monsoon season, intensified by storms, has unleashed some of Asia's worst floods and landslides in years. Over 500 people have died in Indonesia and more than 350 in Sri Lanka, with hundreds still missing.

Additional fatalities include more than 160 in Thailand and several in Malaysia.

With homes, livelihoods, and crops destroyed, survivors are now looking to their governments for greater assistance — a recovery effort that may take longer than anyone can yet predict.
