Spanish authorities are stepping up border controls and migrant repatriations after thousands of people entered the North African enclave of Ceuta from Morocco.

During a visit to the city, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez condemned the mass crossing as a violation of Spain’s territorial integrity and blamed people smugglers for spreading misleading information about migration rules.

Moroccan police have increased efforts to prevent further crossings in Ceuta and nearby Melilla, while the incident has sparked concern across Europe over border security and migration management.
