Spain is experiencing its worst wildfire season since records began nearly two decades ago. Firefighting crews are hoping that cooler temperatures after a two-week heat wave will help them make progress in containing fires that are still burning.

Wildfires in western Spain have scorched a record area of land, with Galicia among the hardest-hit regions. More than a dozen fires remain active, threatening communities and forcing evacuations. Residents express frustration over inadequate preparation and resources. While the fires persist, hopes rest on cooler conditions following a 16-day heat wave.
