Spain: Violence Against Women - ej 16.04.2008

A recent Spanish television program brought together a woman with her violent former boyfriend. He proposed to her on air; she declined. Four days later the woman was found murdered; her throat had been slashed. The case has rocked Spain and provoked renewed discussion about the rise in violence against women. Last year alone, more than 70 women in Spain were killed by their spouses or former partners -- despite the enactment of a law which was supposed to protect women.
