Archaeologists in Aschaffenburg have uncovered a massive Celtic structure dating back 2,400 years. The find may reveal that Iron Age Celtic societies were more powerful and organized than hitherto believed.

During construction work along the River Main in the city of Aschaffenburg, archaeologists made a remarkable discovery. They uncovered a huge timber structure combined with a dry-stone wall dating back around 2,400 years. The exceptionally well-preserved site comes from the early Celtic period and is unlike anything previously found in Germany. Its scale and design suggest the presence of an important settlement, harbor or trading center. Researchers are now investigating the site, but many questions about its exact purpose and significance remain unanswered.
