This comes after reports that rebel's leader and his son were killed in a major operation on Monday. In a ceremony broadcast on state television, the military reported that it had fulfilled its mission of crushing rebel efforts to carve out a separate state for the Tamils. Sri Lankan troops say they have cleared the last pocket of guerilla resistance in the north, putting the island nation entirely under government control.
