Standoff Continues in Bangkok

27/08/08August 27, 2008

In the Thai capital Bangkok, tension remains high between the country’s opposition, the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD), and the government of Prime Minister Samak. The opposition continued its occupation of the Government House compound on Wednesday, as the government issued arrest warrants against the protest leaders. The demonstrators accuse the government of being stooges of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who recently fled into exile in Britain to evade corruption charges.
