Studying volcanic activity in Germany’s Eifel region

An eruption in western Germany 13,000 years ago left behind a caldera that filled with water to become the Laacher See, or Lake Laach. Researchers are looking at the volcanic field that still lies below to discover whether it might one day re-awaken.
